On May 21st, readers, I was interviewed on the Superversive podcast about my books:
We began by discussing my latest release, Contact: Angeles, which as you know from the post on my site here has an updated cover. Anthony Marchetta, Ben Wheeler, and I spoke about first contact, meetings between cultures, Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, Fort Apache, and my novella for the first 35 minutes of the podcast. Thus, if you want an overview of the story, that initial half hour should be precisely what you are looking for. ;)
The rest of the podcast centered around my stories in The Guardian Cycle, Vol. 1: In Dreams and Other Stories.
Anthony and I had a lot of fun going over these stories, which include Death’s Shadow, Memories of Mars, The Fish ‘n’ Wheel, and Bullroarer. Since Anthony had not finished the anthology prior to the interview, we focused on these stories and I only give listeners a brief preview of In Dreams and Guardian, Part 1: Discovery. Anthony instantly recognized that Bullroarer was inspired by the Zoids franchise and I had the chance to say that Lupus One, the cover story for the 2021 summer issue of Cirsova’s Magazine of Thrilling Adventure and Daring Suspense, was also inspired by Zoids.
This is the cover art for that issue (isn’t it beautiful?!):
The conversation at 42:21 switched from Bullroarer to The Fish ‘n’ Wheel, which Anthony and I talked about a great deal. Since he is from New Jersey (the North) and I am from Virginia (the South), we each come from cultures that place different value and emphasis on restaurants, diners, bars, and other eateries. Ben - who is a fellow Southerner - added his perspective to this part of the conversation as well, and it was a fun discussion as we probed the idea of the restaurant or diner that is “there when you need it” and impossible to find when you actively search for it.
By the 1:06:41 mark, we pivoted to Death’s Shadow, which was first published in Cirsova Magazine’s 2020 summer issue. I was - and remain - flattered that Anthony considered that story reminiscent of the Pinkerton’s Ghosts series which he, Ben, and Ken Dickason are producing through the channel. That is quite the compliment!
For the final hour of the podcast our discussion centered not only on Death’s Shadow but the San Francisco Vigilantes, vigilantism in general, morality, and superheroes among other items. It was a fun discussion and I had a blast being interviewed on this episode of the Superversive podcast!
So, if you are interested in learning more about The Guardian Cycle, my writing process and modus operandi, I highly recommend clicking the video and enjoying the show. My mic crackled a few times and I am not at all certain whether that is because I moved my head or the mic improperly, as I became quite animated during the chat. Either one could be the case and I shall endeavor to make certain that it is kept to a minimum the next time I appear on the show.
Until then, though, enjoy the interview and do not forget to purchase one of my three available books! More will be forthcoming, so grab these and start reading while I work on more material for your entertainment! Thank you for traveling with me on the journey, readers. You rock!
